In the summer of 2010, Ikea hosted the memorable event “In Bed With Ikea" at the Olympia Theatre in Paris. The concept? A night of entertainment, but instead of seats, the Swedish furniture store filled the auditorium with beds.
Earlier that summer, Ikea stores offered a ballot to everyone who tested a Sultan mattress in their stores. Each store then drew one winner who was invited to bring a guest to the show.
There was a total of 40 new beds installed that night. The guests were entertained by “The French Soloists” symphony orchestra who played the greatest hits of Abba. The musical performance was followed by a showing of the second and third films in the “Millennium” trilogy series. The Swedish film is based off of a bestselling novel series with the same title. In English, trilogy is known as “The Stieg Larsson Trilogy,” that include these familiar must-see films: “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo,” “The Girl Who Played With Fire,” and “The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets’ Nest.”
It was said to be an extraordinary, once-in-a-lifetime event. If they ever do it again, I’ll definitely be the first one to enter the draw! For now, I think I’ll watch the Stieg Larsson Trilogy. I’ve attached an Amazon link to the series in this article. It is available on the right hand side of your browser window.
Here are some photos from the event!
Looks like fun!
